Company: East Riding of Yorkshire Council
Expected salary: £18795 – 27041 per year
Location: Goole, East Riding of Yorkshire
East Riding of Yorkshire includes a large coastal area as well as most of the stunning Yorkshire Wolds. It covers a range of seaside and countryside towns and villages presenting a varied area for work. The region benefits from housing and living costs below the national average.
An opportunity has arisen for a Food Standards Officer to join our team on a job share basis. The food services team consists of trading standards, environmental health and animal health professionals all of whom work closely together to ensure public protection is maintained.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual who is willing and able to work in an agile environment. You will need to have a positive outlook, excellent organisational, communication and I.T skills and be flexible in response to varying workload demands. You should also hold a full driving licence. Professionalism and the ability to work both with minimal supervision and as part of a team towards shared goals are essential.
The main areas of responsibility will include the enforcement of food standards legislation across a range of food businesses including caterers, retailers and manufacturers. The role also includes the enforcement of feed hygiene legislation and the investigation of complaints and supporting/advising local businesses. This is a career graded post and ideally we would look to recruit at the highest level due to workload needs. However we will also seriously consider applications received from candidates without the relevant qualification or individuals who are part way through their Trading Standards qualifications and both are encouraged to apply. We will provide the relevant training to fit you for the role and provide potential for career progression.
For appointment at the highest level (attracting a salary Market Supplement), candidates must possess a thorough understanding of the relevant food standards and feed hygiene legislation. This will include holding the full DCATS certificate (including food and agriculture), or its antecedents and fulfilment of the respective competency framework requirements of the Food and Feed Law Codes of Practice.
For candidates applying without the relevant Trading Standards qualification, we would expect them to be capable and committed to completing the required study and training required. In return they will be fully supported by the authority while they progress through their training.
The post is based in Goole, however, we encourage agile working and adoption of a ‘blended’ approach to our working arrangements which will include a mixture of working from the office and from home, as well as primarily conducting frontline premises visits across the county.
